AGC Texas Building Branch Legislative Update

February 26, 2007

Eight Days to AGC Legislative Day

AGC's Legislative Day is on March 7.  State government does affect your business.  This is an opportunity to come visit your legislators and deliver your message to them in person while they are at work.  Your input and involvement is needed. Your representatives need to hear what you think of the issues affecting Texas AGC Members. Plan to be in Austin on March 7.

The day begins with registration at 8:45 AM at Saenngerrunde Hall located at 1607 San Jacinto (next to Scholz Garden).  We plan head to the Capitol at 10:00.

At 11:30 all legislators and their staffs are invited to join AGC for a buffet luncheon on the capitol grounds in a tent located southwest of the capitol.  The luncheon will continue until 1:30 PM.  In case of rain Saengerrunde Hall is the back up location for the luncheon.

Sign up today to be in Austin on March 7 for the AGC Legislative Day.  Please complete the registration form and return it to TBB by fax or mail.

HOUSE GOV. REFORM COMMITTEE TO HEAR HB 447 TODAY – CONSOLIDATION OF PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION ALTERNATIVE PROCUREMENT METHODS

The House Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing on HB 447 by Representative Bill Callegari today.  This bill will consolidate the state’s public construction procurement laws into a single location in the state’s statutes as opposed to the four different locations for the current laws.

This bill is expected to be left pending in the committee for a couple of weeks to allow the committee members to study this complex issue.  There has been a resistance to the efforts to put some reasonable limits on job order contracts and there is some opposition to the idea of eliminating the use of interlocal agreements to secure construction services.  We will keep you informed as this bill progresses during the legislative session.
